Vesta has a general heated windshield, but no heated wiper zone. I tapped the brushes and tried to move them, but they froze tightly. , for example, does not allow himself to do this.

In Vesta you can drive tens of kilometers, but the glass will still remain mixed with ice. Here, the heated windshield is turned on with the same button that turns on the heated rear window and mirrors. And so, if you need to warm up the mirrors, the windshield heats up at the same time. When driving for a long time, dirt readily sticks to the hot glass, and washer consumption increases. Vesta's windshield washers are antediluvian single-jet, Lada X-ray's are no better.

Lada-Vesta: Vesta has plenty of plugs, please install a separate button for heating the windshield, like the Lada X-ray. The armrest will not fall if you lower it smoothly, and then click to catch the desired level; it cannot stand above the horizon. But it’s convenient to drive with it with a robot, but with a manual it might get in the way.

The Vesta's interior is cool even after a 20-minute drive. The engine does not warm up for a long time and does not produce the expected heat. Finally, having warmed up, it can drive either hot air or cool air. The temperature knob doesn't help; fan control is more effective.

Opening the trunk from the key fob and from the passenger compartment. Make a button on the outside, like the X-ray. The trunk is roomy - you can easily fit two pairs of skis. Hidden somewhere in the depths of this place is a flimsy L-shaped jack - a regurgitation of post-Soviet components. The trunk lid hinges eat up space. The Lada X-ray has a narrow seat back on the right, while the Vesta has a narrow seat back on the left (the right is more comfortable).

While driving around the city, I did not understand the algorithm of the robotic box. I press the pedal, waiting for acceleration. The robot switches to third, but there is no power, we wait, the robot thinks, then switches, but I don’t need it anymore. I mostly used the manual mode: pedal to the metal, pause for 1.5 seconds, and off we go.

The Lada Vesta's engine is dynamic and flexible. At 50 km/h in fifth gear in manual mode it quickly accelerates to 80 km/h. There is enough traction at low speeds. In the manual version from Renault, you might like the duo.

The suspension of the Lada Vesta is knocked down, dense, stiffer than that of the “ten” but not tooth-crushing, quite comfortable. The plastic is still quiet, the gaps in the body are invisible.

Lada X-ray is preparing to jump

The engine here heats up faster than in Vesta, but the climate control makes them very similar.

There is a trunk opening button on the outside, but you still have to feel it.
There is a rear view camera, it shows passably, but it quickly gets dirty, after one trip you can no longer see anything.

The mirrors in the driver's sun visor do not close; there will be extraneous glare. Remove the mirror or make it with a curtain, like the Lada X-ray.

There was a rut in the parking lot. The rear wheels came out, but the front ones did not. A button to disable the stability control system would help here, but the X-ray does not offer it. If you did, you turned off the system, the front wheels dug up the snow, and you were free, but you had to ask passers-by for help.

The road behavior of the two frets is different.

The suspension of the Lada X-ray is more comfortable, and it does not roll. A couple of times I caught myself braking from 60 km/h, the rear wheels trying to overtake the front ones, apparently the ABS did not have time to work. We had to stop braking and stabilize the car again.

In first gear at a speed of 35-40 km/h, the engine spins to the cutoff and fades out at 6 thousand rpm. The X-ray will move off with a heavy trailer and is gentle on the clutch. Second, third, fourth gears are close. The Renault engine in fifth gear is a little lacking, it doesn’t pull from 50 km/h, the arrow tells you to shift down.

Test Lada Vesta - Lada X-ray: fought

In absentia, my co-author Igor Sirin and I were ready to give the victory to X-Ray - after all, it lays claim to the crossover laurels. However, upon closer examination, the serial Vesta turned out to be almost on the same level with X-Ray. We couldn’t believe our eyes and took up the roulette wheel. That’s right - under the thresholds of both cars there is about 20 cm.

Vesta, despite its impressive ground clearance, listens well to the steering wheel and reliably takes turns. The suspension is assembled, bordering on stiff, but we never saw any breakdowns during the test. X-Ray, despite being a relative, is completely different. Where Vesta consistently detects cracks on the asphalt, the crossover noticeably smoothes them out. The steering wheel here is heavier, but this does not lead to improved directional stability - the driver is constantly forced to squeeze it tighter than in Vesta. When turning, you also have to feel for the trajectory.

On the ice of the lake, the contrast between the two “modes” intensified. Despite the brake robot, Vesta is FIRE. I can’t even believe that the electric power steering gives the driver excellent reactive force. The stabilization system is turned off, but at 60 km/h it is activated again, although with intense wheel slip, even at higher speeds, the electronics do not interfere, allowing you to enjoy the ride.

Without this, the car is no more to me than a personal tram, and it won’t see my money. X-Ray is just like that, even with a more powerful engine, with mechanics, with studded tires that are more tenacious than Vesta’s, it’s a VEGETABLE on ice!

On the ice of the lake, X-ray followed his own course, ignoring the driver’s driving mood.

After the Mercedes-Maybach, which we recently tested, Renault and Lada X-Ray cars are the only ones without a key to at least partially disable ESP. Even when you press the gas to the floor, the Lada X-Ray hardly stalls, and this is not only a matter of pampering on ice, but also of cross-country ability on weak-bearing soils. It is clear that the X-Ray is not an SUV, but when Vesta drives it around in the simplest off-road disciplines, it seems to me that VAZ engineers have something to think about. We are talking about a penny key. I hope it appears on production cars. In the meantime, call for help or... remove the ESP fuse.

For a comparative test, we got two Ladas with different power units, although the choice of power units is the same.

We have Vesta with a 1.6 liter Tolyatti engine with a power of 106 hp. and a robot.

X-Ray with a more modern Nissan engine. It also has a displacement of 1.6 liters, but with a power of 110 hp, it also has a little more torque and a Renault manual gearbox. This combination is just about to appear on Vesta, so we don’t know its prices yet and are only comparing our own feelings, without adjusting for rubles.

The X-Ray's interior is quieter and the engine runs more noble - you can feel the French school, but the engine itself does not inspire feats. In the most important range up to 2500 rpm, it works lazily, but without a hint of detonation, and only with increasing speed does it reveal its potential. On Vesta, the engine pulls from the bottom with a dissatisfied rattle, quieter than in the car, but the howls of the VAZ gearbox still break into the cabin. Tolyatti residents are proud of this robot; it is truly one of the best and is definitely more efficient than the transmission. Starting in the city is smooth and this is pleasant, but delays during switching still annoy me.

I’ll say right away that in Vesta it’s more convenient to be with thermoses and sandwiches - both in front and behind.

In terms of interior dimensions, a longer wheelbase sedan is preferable. A low front panel with impressive high-quality plastic inserts creates a feeling of spaciousness even in the front, and Vesta is the undisputed leader in terms of legroom. The sloping roof puts a little pressure on the head, but only passengers over 180 cm tall will feel this. In the X-Ray, the rear passengers behind the 181 cm tall driver steadily support the backrest with their knees, and entering and exiting the car is not too easy. But there is plenty of room overhead.

You can sit comfortably in the back of the Lada Vesta even with ski boots and a helmet (look at the video).

The trunks are also completely different. X-Ray, despite being 8 centimeters longer than Sandero, is still noticeably inferior to Vesta, and this is felt not only in the cabin.

So at tea we almost gave the palm to Vesta, but there was one more trick ahead where X-ray could snatch victory.

Lada Vesta won almost a whole body length over Lada X-ray when climbing uphill. There is a stick to the left of the rear wheel - this is where the Xray's front bumper stops. Details in the video below.

So, X-ray is generally great, but you need to train (on January 28, 2016, prices for X-ray were announced - from 589 thousand rubles). Our test Lada Vesta - Lada X-ray was won by Lada Vesta (from 517 thousand rubles). We are sure she can fly even higher than that snow-capped mountain. But we do not undertake to predict the flight in conditions of rising exchange rates and import substitution (remember the same jack from her trunk).

Lada XRAY is a high hatchback from AvtoVAZ, a pre-production version of which was shown at the Moscow Motor Show in two thousand and fourteen along with a sedan. At the beginning of November fifteenth, the manufacturer officially presented the commercial version of the new product.

In general, the appearance of the car at the time of presentation was not a secret. The design of the new Lada X Ray 2018-2019 (photo and price) is made in the company’s corporate style, developed by Steve Mattin. The key feature of the appearance is the X-shaped front end, as well as the corresponding stampings on the sidewalls. The latter are quite difficult for mass production, so it’s good that they still made it to the assembly line.

This style was first tested on the original XRAY concept - Mattin’s first work at AvtoVAZ. Of course, that prototype still looks much more impressive today than the serial X-Ray, but it was just a show car to attract attention - without a full-fledged chassis at its core.

But the Lada X Ray 2019 hatchback, ready for production, is built on the basis of the French B0 platform, used on the Renault Logan and Sandero Stepway. The latter became the starting point for the Russian car, which AvtoVAZ representatives planned to make better than the original in all respects, despite the corporate hierarchy.

Specifications

The overall length of the Lada XRAY 2019 in the new body is 4,164 mm, the wheelbase is 2,592, the width is 1,764, the height is 1,570. The trunk volume is 376 liters, and with the backrests of the rear sofa folded, the size of the compartment increases to 1,382 liters. Thus, the car turned out to be 84 millimeters longer than the Sandero Stepway, 7 millimeters wider and 48 millimeters higher. Ground clearance (clearance) - 195 millimeters.

On the version of two thousand and nineteen, the Togliatti people slightly modernized the five-door, installing the rear sofa in the cabin a little further and lower than before. This solution was initially tested on the Cross version, and later transferred to a regular hatchback. As a result, it was possible to carve out an additional 25 mm of free space for the legs of the rear passengers.

As power units, X-Ray received a 1.6-liter sixteen-valve engine with a capacity of 106 hp, and the top-end engine was a new 122-horsepower engine developed by AvtoVAZ with a displacement of 1.8 liters, which was already tested on Priora. Initially, the appearance of a localized Nissan engine with a capacity of 114 hp was expected. coupled with a Jatco variator, but such a tandem has not yet appeared on the car.

Both engines on the Lada X Ray are paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, and the more powerful one is also available with an AMT robotic transmission. From zero to hundreds, the basic version of the model accelerates in 11.4 seconds, and its maximum speed reaches 176 km/h. A car with a 1.8-liter engine reaches 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds (0.6 seconds longer with a robot), the maximum speed is stated at 179 and 186 kilometers per hour, respectively.

What is the price

Serial production of the Lada XRAY started on December 15, 2015 in Togliatti (on the same line with Largo, Nissan Almera and the Renault cars mentioned above), and sales started on February 14, 2016. Initially, the car was available only from 120 dealers in 56 major cities, but now it can be bought at any official Lada center.

At the end of January two thousand and sixteen, AvtoVAZ organized a test drive of a hatchback in Sochi, during which the specifications and prices for the new product were announced. Today, the price of the Lada X Ray 2019 starts at 609,900 rubles for a car with an initial 106-horsepower engine and a manual transmission in the Standard configuration, while for a better-equipped Classic they ask for a minimum of 649,900 rubles.

The minimum cost of an X-Ray with a 122-horsepower engine is 732,900 rubles, and the most expensive version of the model reaches 842,900 rubles. In addition, earlier, for a short time, the car was also offered with a 1.6 liter Nissan engine with 110 hp, but then it was decided to abandon it.

The initial version “Standard” (formerly Optima) has ABS and ESP, front airbags, central locking, on-board computer, front electric windows and 15-inch stamped wheels.

The “Classic” package is complemented by height adjustment of the driver’s seat, plus there is the ability to disable the passenger air bag, while air conditioning and a cooled glove box are available for an extra charge in the “Air” package.

In the “Comfort” version, it is possible to choose an engine (1.6 or 1.8), and the equipment includes a multifunction steering wheel, electric drive and heated exterior mirrors, heated front seats, as well as electric windows on all windows. The top-end “Lux” version boasts light and rain sensors, standard multimedia with navigation, cruise control and parking sensors.



Not so long ago, on November 25, 2015, the front-wheel drive Lada Vesta sedan went on sale, which has good technical characteristics and a truly “tasty” filling. This model was received quite warmly, since almost all of the concern’s previous mistakes were corrected.

However, not everyone immediately ran to buy a new car, remembering that the high hatchback Lada X-Ray is predicted to be released at the beginning of 2016. Should we wait for the next new product, or can we immediately go to the salon and buy Vesta? Only a qualitative comparison of Lada Vesta and X-Ray will help solve this.

Specifications

It is worth noting one important detail in advance: the technical characteristics of the models are largely similar, since they are produced by the same concern. The only difference is that Vesta is and will continue to be produced in Izhevsk, and X-Ray in Togliatti.

The engine for Vesta currently uses exclusively 1.6-liter sixteen-valve engines with a power of 106 horsepower. In the future, the management of the concern and the designers predict the use of three more engines for the needs of this model: a less powerful VAZ eight-valve engine of the same volume, a more powerful VAZ engine with a volume of 1.8 liters and a foreign engine of Japanese origin with a capacity of 118 horsepower, installed on many budget Nissan cars.

The X-Ray will also use a 106-horsepower engine, as well as, in the future, two more powerful ones, a 1.8-liter from the AvtoVAZ concern and, possibly, a Nissan 1.6-liter. For crossovers of this model (4x2 and 4x4), it is also planned to put into operation a forced 1.8-liter engine with a capacity of 140 horsepower, which will increase both power and fuel consumption, respectively. However, the engine capacity will be increased when the sports crossover concepts are released - but it is too early to talk about this.

As for the transmission, when designing the Lada Vesta, only a five-speed Euro gearbox from Renault was used (both in the form of a manual transmission and a robotic automatic transmission). In the X-Ray project, the designers allow the presence of a domestic gearbox, an analogue of which was used in the manufacture of the serial Priora and Grants - the same five stages, the same mechanics and the same variator. However, it can be assumed that AvtoVAZ will abandon the French transmission only if the car needs to be artificially “cheaper” - the imported analogue of the gearbox is objectively better.


Both cars equally meet the conditions of Russian roads that are not of the best quality. High ground clearance (you can see it in the photo), powerful (and, most importantly, durable) suspension and high-quality shock absorption make you feel more comfortable behind the wheel of both Vesta and X-Ray than in many budget-class foreign cars.

Design and convenience

Comparing the design of cars is pointless, since they are both made in approximately the same style, by the same designer. Stamping in the form of a stylized "X" is present on the front and rear fenders of both cars; the general outlines of the optics, radiator grille and stern are also generally similar. The external design is quite pleasant and harmonious - according to this evaluation criterion, both cars turned out very well.

Assessing what is inside the car is much more difficult. Considering that Vesta’s configurations are already known and the car itself is already available for free sale in official dealer showrooms, comparing the interior with pre-production X-Ray models, which have so far only appeared in videos of test drives and at official shows, is hardly appropriate.

However, the design of the interior of the car, presented in the pre-production version of the X-Ray, deserves all respect. At first glance, it is similar to the design of Vesta (woven seat upholstery, plastic trim on the doors and dashboard), but bright shaped inserts in a rich orange color are used throughout. They harmonize extremely well with the black interior and look stylish and modern.

Both cars are approximately similar in content. The basic configuration of both Vesta and X-Ray does not have air conditioning, but there is a radio and high-quality kit that ensures the safety of the driver and passengers. Five inertia seat belts and a driver airbag are already available with the purchase of a minimally option-rich factory model of both cars.


Air conditioning appears in the middle configuration. Heated windshield, which is simply necessary in winter, is optionally available when purchasing Vesta and X-Ray, also in the middle configuration. There are also additional sets of airbags for rear passengers, as well as side ones. All airbags, except the driver's ones, can be turned off if they are not needed during each specific trip.

Built-in electronics

According to some indirect data, the general scheme for compiling configurations for the Lada X-Ray car will coincide with the configurations of Vesta. This means that the capabilities of both cars will be approximately equal, as will the general electronic “filling”, which makes driving easier and adds an element of comfort to the control.

In the basic version of X-Ray, as in Vesta, quite a lot of built-in electronic assistants are expected. An uphill start assist system and a traction control system, automatic speed limiting systems when the car rolls and at a certain skid angle - these devices, according to the designers, are already in the basic configuration in both cars and are available to everyone.


More complex systems - parking sensors, rear view camera, cruise control (an option that eliminates the need to press the gas pedal) - will also be available to buyers of both Vesta and Lada X-Ray. However - in more expensive and pretentious trim levels.

Final verdict

In general, the pros and cons of cars compared to each other are difficult to analyze, since they were designed, in fact, by the same people. There are practically no differences between them - of course, the X-Ray has slightly more power and dynamics (especially in the future of its appearance on sale as an all-wheel drive crossover, and not a “high hatchback” with front-wheel drive). However, Vesta will also be produced in an all-wheel drive “off-road” version - so it’s even harder to compare them.


The main issue of choice is the cost of the models. Initially, Bu Inge Andersson predicted sales prices for Vesta and X-Ray of 400 and 500 thousand rubles, respectively (for basic configurations), but now the picture has seriously changed (mainly due to a serious depreciation of the ruble).

For this reason, there are no objective reasons to wait for the Lada X-Ray if it is possible to purchase Vesta and the buyer does not have any preconceptions regarding the body type. Both cars are comfortable, practical and productive, as well as extremely reliable and durable (according to the designers and numerous independent experts). It makes sense to expect an all-wheel drive modification of one of the cars - at present, choosing Vesta will simply save the buyer a good amount of money.

Now, many drivers are interested in which is better, Lada Vesta or X-ray. There is such an interest in the connection between the common ancestry of these cars. They even look slightly similar. And although manufacturers say that it is incorrect to compare them, in their opinion, these are different cars, and their target audience is completely different. But, in practice, when people have the opportunity to buy a car for up to 700,000 rubles, they consider all possible options that fall into this price category. Therefore, they will still be compared regardless of how AvtoVAZ engineers and marketers feel about this.

Which is better, Lada Vesta or X-ray? The answer to this question will be ambiguous. The problem in evaluation occurs due to the different purposes of these machines. In this regard, the comparison will be made very conditionally.

Appearance

The first thing to compare is the exterior of the cars. Everything here is quite ambiguous. The same design concept was used for both models. In many ways, this is why car enthusiasts believe that these are the same cars. Although, this is not at all true.

In general, despite the presence of visually similar lines in the body design, Vesta looks more dynamic. Therefore, it is often preferred by young drivers. The X-ray looks more solid and detailed; in fact, it is a car for adults, family people. It is very difficult to determine which car looks preferable. It's all a matter of individual taste.


Do not forget that the body has several completely utilitarian functions that also require evaluation and affect the technical condition of the car. The Lada Vesta has better noise protection; X-ray owners will have to add noise protection themselves. Also, according to experts, Vesta is better protected, which is an important component in the conditions of the domestic winter with an abundance of reagents.

Salon and trunk

The Lada Vesta wins in interior comfort. This is achieved due to the size of the body. Sedans always have a more spacious interior. And if you don’t feel the difference in the front seats, it will be uncomfortable for tall passengers in the back. If you prefer to travel with a large group, then it is better to take a Vesta sedan. It also makes sense to mention that due to the peculiarities of the location of the pillars, the Lada Vesta has much better all-round visibility.

Not everything is so clear with the trunk. At first consideration, the Lada Vesta wins. The volume of this compartment is 420 liters. For X-rays this figure is only 380 liters. But, in practice, the X-ray seats can be folded down, turning the rear seats into a luggage compartment. In this case, the total trunk volume can reach 1200 liters. This is enough to transport things to the country.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the technical interior equipment. If we take the control devices, they are very similar. However, there are minor differences. In general, they are quite comfortable in both cars. Although, personal preferences may interfere here. If you look at the technical equipment, the top versions will be equipped the same. But in the basic assembly, Vesta will look richer. There are disadvantages common to both models, for example, the driver's armrests are not very comfortable.

Engine and transmission

It is no less difficult to compare here. After all, the line of engines is completely identical to both the Lada Vesta and the X-ray. But here it can be noted that Vesta has a junior engine, which has only 87 hp. This option is not installed on X-ray. Overall, there's not much to compare here. The engines are the same, fuel consumption is also almost identical. But, according to tests, Vesta turns out to be faster, although on the road the acceleration is not felt by more than 0.2 seconds.

There’s also nothing special to say about the gearboxes. They are completely identical. In this regard, the engineers did not reinvent the wheel, and installed an already proven option on the X-ray.

Chassis

Here you can find several significant differences. Essentially, if you decide to choose between two cars, then this will be the main thing to pay attention to. It's all about the different platforms used to create cars. Lada Vesta was created on a completely new platform, which was developed for this project. For the X-ray, the chassis was taken from, the advantage of this was the absence of childhood diseases, but at the same time some of the shortcomings of the French car migrated here.

The Lada Vesta has greater stability on the road, which is reflected in its squat design. Its handling is at the proper level. Engineers have worked on the steering at the highest level. Drivers especially note the car’s responsiveness to steering, which is reflected in the high-quality tuning of Nissan’s electric power steering. The car's ground clearance is 175 mm, which is more than all similar foreign cars. After all, Lada Vesta was created for use in domestic road conditions. The car is equipped with 185/65 tires with a radius of 15 inches.

Lada X-ray has enough, here it reaches 195 mm. Thus, this car is more suitable for traveling on country roads. It will also be easier to drive out of a snowy yard in winter. This ground clearance is achieved by the design features of the suspension, and the tires also have an effect. Here it is installed in size 205/55 R16. All together this makes the ground clearance impressive. True, there are some problems here that the car inherited from the Renault Sandero. In particular, the car may sway when cornering at high speed.

Prices and options

As mentioned, both cars have almost the same additional features. The difference is in the features of the packages. Lada Vesta is more flexible in this regard. It has 7 different configurations, where various additional options are arranged in different ways. At the moment, the Lada X-ray is offered in only 4 trim levels, which somewhat complicates the selection of a car to suit the individual needs of the driver.

The cost of cars depends on the configuration. This indicator is influenced by the layout of the power unit, as well as the presence of additional options. The difference between the minimum and maximum assembly for both cars will be about 200 thousand rubles.

In general, the Lada X-ray is more expensive. The basic configuration will cost the buyer 550 thousand rubles, a similar assembly of the Lada Vesta costs 520 thousand. For the maximum version of the Lada Vesta you will have to pay 720 thousand. But the Lada X-ray in the largest configuration will cost the driver 780 thousand. As you can see, Lada Vesta is a more budget option, especially considering the abundance of additional features even in the basic configuration.

conclusions. Upon closer examination, such very different cars as the Lada Vesta and Lada X-ray are significantly similar. The desire of engineers to unify the models had an effect. In this regard, it is almost impossible to fully answer the question of which is better, Lada Vesta or X-ray. In fact, everything will depend on your personal requirements for the car; for some people the Vesta will be the best option, while for others the X-ray is more suitable.
