The crossover's small three-spoke steering wheel is easy to grip and is also equipped with additional control buttons. But there are certain complaints about the seats - it is problematic for a driver taller than 185 cm to sit on them comfortably. This is especially true on long trips. Noise insulation also leaves much to be desired - some kind of tuning would be helpful here, because the engine can be heard almost always, and at high engine speeds - very clearly.

The multimedia system, although with a monochrome display, has AUX and USB outputs, and the audio system produces pretty good sound. It doesn’t cause much trouble - except that chips appeared on the hood and slowly began to turn red, but that’s it. During operation, I only changed the air filter and oil filter. Analogue, really. We would have to wait a long time for the original one, so we supplied a non-original spare part. The downside is that sometimes I would like all-wheel drive. But for this price alone it is very difficult to find such a crossover.”

I think everyone understands the truth that it is not because of a good life that people look towards the Chinese automobile industry and buy its “products”. If everything was in order with finances, not a single person would chase a car from the Middle Kingdom.
It so happened that my car literally began to die. Still, advanced age has done its job. And I can’t live without her. That’s why I went to choose a “steel horse” from the budget options. My choice fell on a little-known and mysterious brand with the interesting name Changan (in my opinion, the name is more suitable for a Japanese car, but alas). I liked the car’s appearance (not another arrogant clone of some “European”), and everything was fine inside.
The Chinese manufacturer Changan is taking its first but confident steps in the domestic market. There are currently 3 models on offer. In addition to the two sedans presented earlier, Changan brought to Russia an interesting version of the Changan CS35 urban SUV, on which great hopes are pinned. The entire Changan model range.

The appearance of the Changan CS35 does not fit in with the Chinese car market, reeking of plastic and poor quality assembly. And all because Italian designers worked hard on the design of the car. But expectations were completely exceeded.
The SUV looks just as nice from the back as it does from the front. Large headlights in combination with a powerful bumper and foglights give a certain audacity and confidence. It is unlikely that anyone will decide to cut you off in such a car. By the way, the crossover from Changan has a spoiler installed, which is good news. But the salon itself is naturally much more modest than its German brother. The first thing that catches your eye is the dashboard lighting; it is blue and does not hurt your eyes. The steering wheel is equipped with lugs on the rim and can only be adjusted in height. The central control console is quite functional and allows you to control many vehicle functions with one keystroke.
The build quality and materials used in the crossover are of good quality. According to the manufacturer, it uses only those materials that have passed many internal checks of the company and meet all requirements. The interior uses soft plastic with aluminum-look inserts, and there are minimal gaps on the front panel. The chairs themselves are very comfortable and can be adjusted to suit the person.
Comfort in the rear seat is not as good, but two passengers can still comfortably fit there. The manufacturer himself hints at this, having allocated two seats with seat cushions and headrests. With a wheelbase measuring just over two and a half meters, it is not convincing that a tall person will be able to rest their knees a little on the front seats.
By the way, the back of the rear seats can be folded and thanks to this the trunk volume will increase from 337 liters to 1251 liters. Unfortunately, most Russians have a strange stereotype of a Chinese car with an incomprehensible build quality and a disgusting interior. So, Changan CS35 breaks such stereotypes and looks, if not “European,” then certainly “Korean.” The only negative is the rather weak sound insulation of the cabin. The cost of the car is reasonable and for it the buyer will receive:
- Comfortable chairs with lateral support and adjustment reserve;
- High-quality interior assembly;
- Good multimedia;
- Sound insulation, but it still leaves much to be desired.

Despite the fact that there is only one power unit for the Changan CS35, when purchasing, the driver can choose a five-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The engine here is a four-cylinder BlueCore, has a volume of 1.6 liters and a maximum power of 113 hp. It complies with Euro-4 standards and is equipped with electronic fuel injection.
Depending on the type of gearbox, fuel consumption varies from 6.8 liters per 100 km (manual) to 7.2 liters per 100 km (automatic). The Chinese crossover is based on a front-wheel drive platform - there are no other options, even optional. From an aesthetic point of view, the Changan CS35 is quite good; fortunately, the Chinese did not work alone on the appearance of the crossover, but in company with Italian designers. But at the same time, despite the excellent dynamism of the exterior, the design of the new product is oversaturated with conspicuous details; the Chinese were too keen to please customers and make their brainchild stand out on the road.
Judge for yourself, the car received an original radiator grille that extends onto the hood; curvy front and rear optics; sports bumpers with a mesh air intake at the front; stylish foglights; dynamic stamping along the body profile; an ascending window sill line that smoothly transitions into the rear side glass, inscribed in the pillar; rear door spoiler and original rear window with eye-catching profile.
As for the dimensions, the Changan CS35 is very compact. The length of its body is only 4160 mm, the length of the wheelbase fits within the framework of 2560 mm, the width of the crossover does not exceed 1810 mm, and the height rests at 1670 mm. No one should have any particular complaints about the ergonomics of the front panel, but in general the interior is far from ideal, and this primarily concerns free space, which is especially lacking in the rear.
In addition, the crossover’s seats turned out to be quite mediocre, on which you won’t feel much comfort on long trips. The negative picture is complemented by poor sound insulation, so the music will have to be turned up louder or you will have to “enjoy” the howl of the gearbox.
The trunk of the Changan CS35, for a car of this size, is quite good and can accommodate up to 337 liters of cargo in standard condition or 1251 liters with the rear row of seats folded.
Specifications. There is only one engine for the Changan CS35, but there are two gearboxes: a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic.
Under the hood of the crossover is a 1.6-liter BlueCore engine, developed by the British design division of the Chinese automaker. The engine is made of aluminum, has four in-line cylinders with a total volume of 1598 cm³, is equipped with multi-point injection with electronic control, fully meets the requirements of the Euro-4 environmental standard, and its maximum power is 113 hp. or 83 kW at 6000 rpm. The peak torque of this engine is 152 Nm and is available in the range from 4000 to 5000 rpm.
In the case of aggregating the power plant with a manual transmission, the average fuel consumption is stated at 6.8 liters, and when installing an automatic transmission it increases to 7.2 liters per 100 km. As for the acceleration dynamics, the Changan CS35 reaches the first hundred on the speedometer in 14.0 seconds in the manual version and in 15.0 seconds in the automatic version. The maximum speed in both cases is 180 km/h.
The Changan CS35 crossover is built on a front-wheel drive platform, so there is no all-wheel drive system even as an option, which, undoubtedly, can be written down as obvious disadvantages of the new product, which hopes for serious competition with other representatives of the class. The front suspension of the Changan CS35 crossover is completely independent, based on MacPherson struts and an anti-roll bar. At the rear, the Chinese installed a semi-independent torsion beam with coil springs. Disc brakes are used on all wheels, while the front ones are also ventilated. In addition, the dual-circuit braking system is complemented by ABS, BAS and EBD, as well as a mechanical parking brake drive. The steering of the new product is rack and pinion, supplemented by an electric booster.
Options and prices. On the Russian market, the 2016-2017 Changan CS35 is sold in two trim levels - “Comfort” and “Luxe”. For the basic version the minimum asking price is 747,900 rubles, and for the “top” version – 784,900 rubles (the surcharge for the “automatic” in both cases is 86,000 rubles).
The crossover is standardly equipped with two front airbags, a six-speaker radio, ESP, electric windows on all doors, ABS, EBD, heated front seats, air conditioning, electric drive and heated mirrors, 16-inch wheel rims, fog lights and power steering.
The most “packed” version is complemented by side airbags (their total number reaches six pieces), an electric sunroof, a multifunction steering wheel, leather trim, cruise control, a 12-volt outlet, 17-inch alloy wheels and some other relevant “ lotions."
