How much oil to pour into a 16 valve priors engine. How to change the lubricant and how many liters of oil in a Lada Priora engine

The correct operation of any automobile engine is possible only with high-quality lubrication of all its rubbing components and parts. Therefore, one of the stages of machine maintenance is precisely changing the lubricant in the engine. In this article we will look at how much oil is in the Priora engine and how to change the fluid in the car yourself.

When to change?

First, let's look at when to change the lubricant and oil filter in the VAZ Priora 126 engine and other versions of the internal combustion engine. According to official regulations, the manufacturer recommends changing the oil in the power unit of domestic cars at least every 15 thousand kilometers. If the vehicle is used in urban operating conditions, then the substance in the internal combustion engine must be changed every 10 thousand km. Many car owners change the lubricant after 7 thousand kilometers.

What signs can be used to determine the need for an extraordinary replacement of a substance:

  • the power unit of the car began to function more noisily;
  • Vibrations appeared in the engine operation, the engine began to stall;
  • the emergency fluid pressure indicator in the lubrication system came on on the dashboard;
  • engine thrust decreased, acceleration dynamics decreased;
  • a foam emulsion has appeared in the oil, this can be determined by the quality of the liquid by removing the dipstick to control the level;
  • the oil darkened greatly, became black, and traces of deposits appeared in it.

Selecting oil and filter

The manufacturer recommends using semi-synthetic motor oil in cars with sixteen valve engines.

When choosing a liquid for the winter, it is necessary to take into account the viscosity class of the working substance:

  1. 5W-30. This type of lubricant copes with its duties at air temperatures from -30°C to +25°C.
  2. 5W-40. Liquids of this class begin to thicken at -30°C, but perform their duties well at temperatures up to +40°C.
  3. 10W-40. They cope with their tasks in the temperature range from -25°C to +40°C.
  4. 15W-40. These oils work optimally at temperatures from -15°C to +40°C.

From the video of the Simple Opinion channel you can find out which inexpensive oil does its job well in Prior engines.

If you plan to use your car frequently in winter, then it is better to give preference to products with a 0W class.

This type of oil allows you to effectively lubricate the working parts of the engine even in cold weather of -35 degrees. The manufacturer recommends filling power units numbered 128 with products that meet the SL/SM standard. Other motors must be filled with SM lubricants. When pouring summer oil, you need to take into account that in the cold season it will freeze faster. When it comes to choosing a cleaning device, most car owners use MANN oil filters.

Level control and required volume

Now let’s look at how many liters are included in the 16 valve engine of the Lada Priora. The normal working volume of lubricant is three and a half liters; this amount of liquid must enter the unit.

The control procedure is performed on a cold engine so that the oil completely flows down along the internal walls of the internal combustion engine.

You can check how much oil is in the Priora engine as follows:

  1. Open the hood of the car.
  2. Find the fluid level meter; it is installed in the cylinder head.
  3. Remove the dipstick from the inspection hole and wipe it with a rag.
  4. Reinstall the meter as far as it will go and pull it out again. The lubricant level should be between the MIN and MAX marks on the dipstick.

You can learn more about how to eliminate the cause of rapid fluid consumption from the video filmed by the Parabelum Shilov channel.

Possible causes of oil consumption

We figured out how much lubricant is poured into the system, now let’s look at the main reasons for the rapid consumption of the substance:

  1. Using oil that does not meet the engine standard. If the fluid is not intended for domestic car engines or its quality is too low, part of the lubricant will go to carbon deposits.
  2. Problems associated with a malfunction of the power unit. For example, piston rings, valve stem seals, or other components of the machine’s engine could fail.
  3. Terms of Use. If the driver prefers an aggressive driving style, often drives at high speeds and likes to accelerate quickly, even high-quality oil will become soot.
  4. The walls of the engine cylinders, piston rings or the pistons themselves do not rub in. This problem is more relevant for new power units, as well as engines that have undergone major overhauls.
  5. Liquid leak. If oil leaves the system, the car owner must periodically pour it into the internal combustion engine to replenish the volume. It is necessary to diagnose the lubrication system for damaged seals and seals.
  6. Increased lubricant consumption may be due to the problem of fluid leakage into the cooling system. This is caused by damage to the cylinder head or worn cylinder head gasket. Such a malfunction can only be solved by dismantling the seal and replacing it.

How to replace it yourself?

Now we’ll figure out how to replace the old oil with your own hands and add fresh fluid.

Preparation

The lubricant should be changed after preparing all the necessary tools and materials:

  • you will need a rag to clean the plugs and remove traces of drips;
  • an old bucket or other container with a capacity of about 4-5 liters, used oil will be collected in it;
  • new cleaning device;
  • set of wrenches;
  • a device for dismantling the purifier, you can use a special key or screwdriver;
  • iron brush;
  • fresh lubricant in the specified quantity.

The Men's Topic channel in its video talked about all the nuances that a car owner will have to face when replacing the lubricant.

Algorithm of actions

How to change and fill new oil:

  1. Start the car engine and let it idle for about ten minutes. This will allow you to warm up the liquid, since it is better to do the changing procedure on heated oil. The process itself must be carried out in a garage with a pit or on an overpass. To complete the task, the car is placed on the parking brake, and stops are installed under the rear wheels. Unscrew the bolts securing the front wheel with a wheel wrench, then remove it, first placing the front part of the vehicle on a jack.
  2. Open the hood of the car and locate the filler plug. Unscrew it to reduce pressure in the lubrication system.
  3. Dismantle the power unit mudguard. To do this, use a 10mm wrench and use the tool to unscrew the nuts securing the product.
  4. Reach under the bottom of the car and locate the drain hole. Using a wire brush and rags, clean the plug from dirt. After this, you need to place a container under the hole into which the used oil will be drained.
  5. Unscrew the cap using a wrench. Be careful not to damage the edges. For greater convenience, use a socket head if such a wrench is available. Use gloves as the drained oil will be hot. It will take 10-15 minutes to remove the lubricant.
  6. While the old oil is draining, replace the cleaning device. The filter element is located on the right side of the exhaust manifold, located at the rear of the power unit. To dismantle the purifier, use a special device. If you don't have such a tool, you can use a bicycle chain. You need to grab the oil filter housing with it and try to turn it counterclockwise. If there is no chain, take a screwdriver and pierce the body of the cleaning device with it, and use the handle of the tool as a lever. When removing the filter, be careful as some of the lubricating fluid will come out.
  7. Take a new cleaner and fill it with about 70% fresh substance. This will prevent oil starvation when starting the power unit and reduce the pressure on the valve drive. Liquid is poured into the filter itself in several stages. It is also necessary to lubricate the rubber seal on the cleaner. Reinstall the filter by screwing it clockwise. Make sure the device is installed level.
  8. Replace the drain plug and move the bucket of used oil aside.
  9. Fresh lubricant must be poured into the system through the filler neck. Be careful not to spill the liquid. For greater convenience, you can install a watering can or the top of a cut plastic bottle in the neck. Three liters of a new substance are poured into the lubrication system, its volume is controlled by level. You need to remove the meter from the hole and wipe it with a rag, then put it back in place. Then the dipstick is pulled out and the volume of lubricant in the car’s engine is assessed. Do not fill the engine with oil above the MAX mark. Too much substance in the lubrication system can lead to malfunctions of the catalyst device, as well as the flow meter sensor.
  10. Reinstall the filler plug.
  11. Start the car engine and let it run for about five minutes. During this time, make sure that there are no leaks from under the filter device, and also check the drain plugs. Stop the engine and let it cool, then check the lubricant level again. If necessary, add oil. Reinstall the mudguard and wheel. Remove the car from the jack, then tighten the bolts on the wheel more tightly.

Unscrew the engine drain plug with a wrench Remove the cleaning device and replace it Pour fresh fluid into the Priora lubrication system

Replacement cost

The cost of replacement is affected solely by the quality of the oil and filter. One liter of fresh lubricant can cost the buyer from 250 to 1,500 rubles, depending on the product itself. As for the cleaning device, its price ranges from 200 to 700 rubles on average.

What happens if you don’t change the lubricant in time?

What problems can result from untimely replacement of lubricant:

  1. The appearance of carbon deposits on the internal walls of the internal combustion engine. Its formation will lead to an increase in fuel consumption by the engine. Some of the oil will go to carbon deposits, so the car owner will have to periodically add fluid to the lubrication system.
  2. The motor will start to “trouble”. When driving at low speeds, a knocking sound from the hydraulic compensators may be heard; experienced car enthusiasts say that their “fingers are knocking.” If the engine is running rough and a metallic knock is heard from under the hood, you need to check the quality and level of the oil.
  3. When the lubricant does not change, this leads to a loss of fluid properties. As a result, the level of the substance may decrease due to the fact that part of it goes to soot. As a result, the pressure in the lubrication system will change and the oil seals and seals will be squeezed out.
  4. Overhaul of the power unit. The saddest consequence of untimely replacement. The internal elements of the engine wear out faster, and as a result, some parts may fail.

All owners of domestic cars are accustomed to servicing them independently, fortunately the simple design allows this. One of these cars is the 2007 Lada Priora, which is an updated version of the 1994 VAZ-2110. In terms of design, the machine has similar advantages and disadvantages, but is definitely better in terms of reliability. Any owner, even an inexperienced one, can cope with replacing consumables in a Lada Priora. So, one of the most basic procedures is changing the engine oil. No matter how simple this task is, questions may still arise, even among experienced motorists. In this article we will look at what points Lada Priora owners should pay attention to before replacing, as well as during this process.

The automaker recommends changing the engine oil in Lada Priora after 15 thousand kilometers, taking into account difficult climatic and road factors. In some cases, the interval has to be reduced to 8 thousand km. Thanks to this, the service life of the engine will be extended for the entire period of use of the car.

What will you need for replacement?

  • Keys, including key number 17
  • Container for draining used oil with a volume of 5 l
  • Rags, rubber gloves
  • New oil filter
  • New 3.9 liter engine oil
  • Special wrench for removing the oil filter (or screwdriver)

Which oil to choose for Lada Priora

Before you start replacing the fluid, you need to choose it correctly. In this case, we pay attention to various parameters, in particular SAE temperature viscosity, as well as API quality level. For example, if the fluid has parameters of 10w-40, then the oil is adapted to temperatures below minus 30 degrees. It is believed that the lower the number next to the letter W, the higher the adaptability to low temperatures. Typically, viscosity is selected depending on the climatic conditions in which the car is most often operated.

How much to fill

The optimal amount of oil to be poured into the Lada Priora engine is 4 liters.

What kind of oil filter is needed?

An oil filter from a VAZ-2108 is suitable for Lada Priora.

Sequence of oil change work

  1. Having made sure that we have all the necessary tools, we get to work. First of all, warm up the engine to operating temperature. To do this, it is enough to travel around the city for 5-10 minutes
  2. After the engine has warmed up, place the car on an overpass or lift.
  3. Unscrew the drain plug at the bottom of the machine. If there is a motor protection installed there, it must first be removed to gain access to the plug. Please note that to remove the plug you will need the 17th key
  4. After unscrewing the plug, the used oil will begin to drain from the hole into a pan prepared in advance
  5. It takes 15 minutes for the liquid to drain completely. During this time, you can have time to do one more procedure - replace the oil filter. It is located on the right side of the exhaust manifold, that is, at the rear of the engine
  6. So, to unscrew the filter you will need a special key. As a last resort, you can use a screwdriver to pierce the filter housing and use the screwdriver as a lever to unscrew the filter counterclockwise. It is possible that oil will leak from the filter, so you need to be careful. It is advisable to wear gloves
  7. So, the old filter has been removed. We prepare the seat for the new filter - wash it, clean it and degrease it. Pour some oil into the filter and install it
  8. After making sure that the old oil is completely drained, tightly screw the drain plug back into place and proceed to the next step.
  9. Filling with new oil is done through the engine compartment. We provide access to it and find the filler plug. We insert a funnel into it and slowly pour in new oil, periodically checking the liquid level with a dipstick
  10. For the Lada Priora engine, you need to pour in at least 3.5 liters of oil. After filling, we make a control measurement with a probe. It is necessary that the oil mark on the dipstick does not exceed the Max mark and does not fall below the Min mark. This is considered the ideal oil level
  11. Screw the filler plug back into place. At this point, the process of changing the oil in the Lada Priora engine has been successfully completed.

Many Russian motorists complain that the engines of domestic cars consume a lot of lubricant. Today, Russian-made cars manufactured at AvtoVAZ are equipped with 16-valve engines of modifications 21126, 21127 and 21128. The designers of these power units officially claim that the first two 1.6-liter models should consume no more than 50 grams of lubricant per 1 thousand kilometers. . But the oil consumption of the Priora, equipped with the domestic engine 21128, is expected to be 6 times more, that is, up to 300 grams for the same distance. What is the reason for such great gluttony? Does this indicator depend on what kind of engine oil is used for the Priora?

Features of the motor brand 21128

This power unit is installed not only in Priora. They are also supplied to other brands of VAZ cars. Wanting to reduce the cost of production, the authors of the modernization of the 21127 engine decided to leave the cylinder-piston block unchanged. The solution was simple - increase the volume by increasing the piston stroke. To implement it, the connecting rod and crank mechanism was changed. Shortened connecting rods allow the pistons to increase their stroke.

Despite the manufacturer’s assurances that the engine’s service life is 200 thousand km, in practice it turned out to be much less. This is explained by the fact that the parts of the cylinder-piston block began to experience much greater loads. The engine itself is a 4-cylinder, injection. The timing camshafts are located at the top, the gas distribution mechanism drive is a belt drive. But if it breaks, the valve cylinders do not bend. But wear of the rings and cylinder walls progresses quite quickly. As a result, the engine becomes so “hungry” that it consumes oil for the Priora from 0.7 to 3 liters per 1 thousand km. Thus, without major repairs, it cannot travel even one hundred thousand kilometers.

Other reasons for excess grease consumption

In addition to the above-mentioned shortcomings due to the fault of the manufacturer, there are a number of other reasons why synthetics or semi-synthetics poured into the engine are overused. This applies to all engine models, regardless of manufacturer.

If a lot of oil fluid is burned, you can see bluish exhaust gas coming from the exhaust pipe. Over time, an oily black film can be found on its edges. But it is impossible to determine the reason why this happens without opening the engine.

Priora is equipped with several engines: 8 and 16-valve with a volume of 1.6 liters, as well as the above-described 1.8-liter with 16 valves. They all have different power - from 81 to 120 horses. In order to choose the right lubricant for them, it must meet certain characteristics. The lubricant must be synthetic or semi-synthetic. So what kind of oil should I use? Lada Priora uses engine oil corresponding to classes SJ, SL - according to the American API specification. Such lubricants are used for gasoline engines starting in 1996. Which oil is better to fill - SJ or SL?

Lubricants of level SL and higher are required to be used in 16-valve engine models. They are designed for both conventional and multi-valve engines, including turbocharged ones. These oil compositions have low volatility and extended drain intervals. Good cleaning qualities allow you to promptly remove carbon deposits, soot, and other harmful deposits from the engine. SL class motor oils can be recommended for all Priora power units.

Another important characteristic is viscosity, defined by the SAE standard. As a rule, all-season motor fluids that have a certain level of low-temperature and high-temperature viscosity are poured. For example, in the 5W30 indicator, the number 5 means that the pumpability of the lubricant, as well as the engine crankability, will allow a cold engine to be started normally at sub-zero temperatures, down to -30°C. The number 30 after the letter W determines the kinematic and dynamic viscosity of the lubricating mixture in a warm, running engine. It is usually measured in laboratory conditions, the oil composition is heated to temperatures of +40°C, as well as +100°C. Although the cylinder-piston group heats up even to +250°C, engine oil also works there, reducing the friction of the piston rings on the cylinder walls.

The higher the level of high-temperature viscosity, the less fluidity the lubricant will have. At the same time, the oil film on the surfaces of parts is stronger and more stable. For Priora engines, the recommended level is 30 or 40. Synthetic lubricant with viscosity 30 (for example, 5W30) is best used in unworn engines, when the gaps between the surfaces of the parts are still small. Over time, you will have to switch to a thicker, semi-synthetic composition, which has a viscosity characteristics of 40.

Low-temperature ductility is determined by the first digit in the designation. For areas with harsh winter climates, it is recommended to take 0W30 - the engine will start even at a temperature of -35°C. For moderate latitudes, 5W30 or 5W40 is quite suitable. For cars operating in the south of the country, we can recommend 10W40 - the maximum cold start temperature will be -20°C. This lubricating composition does not lose its viscosity in hot climates.

Popular brands and grades of lubricants

As the first fill for Lada Priora engines, a good semi-synthetic composition from the domestic manufacturer - Lukoil is used. The first maintenance with a lubricant change is performed after 2.5–3 thousand km. Further, changing the oil in the Lada Priora engine depends on operating conditions, fuel quality, brand and manufacturer of motor fluid. If you want to save your engine, an oil change on a Priora should be done every 7–8 thousand kilometers. Although, according to the manufacturer, the lubricant requires replacement after 10–15 thousand km.

It is worth paying attention to such famous manufacturers as Esso, Mobil, Shell, ZIC, Total. Their range of synthetic and semi-synthetic oils is quite wide. The only negative is the higher price compared to domestic manufacturers.

It is not necessary to buy an oil mixture that has an API SL grade. Later level compositions, SM and SN, are also compatible with SL. At the same time, their performance qualities are even better.

How to change the oil mixture in Lada Priora

If the car’s warranty has already expired and there is no need to carry out scheduled maintenance at the dealer, in Lada Priora you can change the engine oil yourself. This process is simple. You just need to adhere to a certain sequence of actions. You must purchase in advance a 4-liter canister of motor fluid with suitable properties, as well as an oil filter. If you are going to switch to a different viscosity or change manufacturer, you will additionally need to flush the engine.

Soft flushes, according to the conditions of their use, are poured 200–300 kilometers before changing the lubricant. During this time, they clean the engine of toxins. Others pour right before you change the oil. Then the engine idles for 5 minutes to half an hour. It all depends on the specific wash. You should prepare: your own set of wrenches, a container for used lubricant, rags.

  1. The engine warms up well, the car is placed on a lift or over an inspection hole.
  2. The filler neck under the hood is released. The drain plug is carefully unscrewed with a 17 key, and a container for draining is first placed in the bottom of the crankcase.
  3. The old oil is completely drained along with the flush. It is advisable to suck out the remaining lubricant from the bottom with a large syringe with a tube - after all, it is very difficult to park the car in an absolutely horizontal position.
  4. The old oil filter is unscrewed. A new one is installed, half filled with new grease.
  5. The drain plug is screwed in and about 3.5 liters of lubricant flows into the engine through the filler neck. The level is checked with a dipstick; it should be halfway between MIN and MAX.
  6. The engine starts and idles. After 5–7 minutes, the oil level is checked again. Top up if necessary.

Your car is ready to travel again until the next consumable replacement.

Greetings to all readers and owners of their own cars, and especially Lada Priora! If you service it yourself, then this article is definitely for you! Your car will always feel great if you pour the right oil into the Priora engine and maintain it correctly. Let's look at this issue in more detail and for various types of engine, including.

The performance of the power unit and the operation of the vehicle itself will depend on the characteristics of the lubricant and its quality. The manufacturer installed several different engines on the Priora, ranging from 8-valve 21114 and 21116 to 21126–21128. They already have 16 valves and are capable of producing power up to 120 hp.

According to the recommendations provided by the manufacturer, oil changes must be carried out in strict accordance with the regulations. For new cars, as well as for those that have undergone major engine repairs, this should be done after 2.5 - 3 thousand kilometers. When should you change the lubricant afterwards? Everything is very simple here - during further operation you will have to replace it every 15 thousand kilometers or annually, without regard to mileage.

However, these are not all situations that affect the need to replace it. Manufacturers say that the engine can consume up to 1 liter of lubricant literally for every 1000 kilometers traveled. This is a common occurrence, especially for domestic engines, but a more accurate consumption rate depends on the characteristics of the oil, for example, its viscosity, as well as operating conditions. When driving at high speeds, frequent accelerations, and also when the engine has not been run-in, the degree of consumption will be an order of magnitude higher.

How to change lubricant for a Priora engine

The procedure itself is not at all difficult, with a little experience. You will have to prepare oil, a new oil filter, and several clean rags in advance for taking measurements, wiping your hands, etc. Once you have found the drain tap, place any unnecessary container in this place so that the oil flows into it. After it leaves the system, remove the old filter and install a new one in its place.

If you plan to use it, then it’s time to add it to the system. The motor should be allowed to run for about a quarter of an hour, and then the flushing temporary lubricant should be removed. Now pour new oil through the neck. Naturally, every Priora owner should know how much lubrication his car’s engine requires. This volume is in the range of 3.2–3.4 liters, so you will have to purchase a 4-liter canister. But everything that remains can be used for topping up, since the oil will gradually leave the system one way or another.

How do you know that it is full and no longer requires lubrication - you ask? A completely logical question. To do this, let the engine run for a few minutes and turn it off. After it has cooled, remove the test dipstick from its socket and wipe it clean. Now measure. It is recommended to do the procedure a couple of times. It is correct when the lubricant level is between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick.

Which products to choose

Now let’s devote a few lines to what kind of oil should be chosen for the engine in the Priora. The most important thing is to always make a choice in favor of quality products. What do you need to do to buy a truly suitable and correct oil and not cause damage to your engine? The answer is obvious: contact only trusted retail outlets, read reviews from other customers. You shouldn’t chase savings so that you don’t have to pay for early repairs of cylinders, pistons or valves.

This car comes off the assembly line filled with semi-synthetic oil produced by Lukoil. But not only the products of this manufacturer are suitable for filling, but also a number of other brands, such as:

  • Rosneft;
  • ESSO;
  • Shell;
  • Mobil;
  • Ravenol;
  • ZIC and others.

The oil must be filled with oil that is suitable for use in gasoline engines. This is a classification type A3/B3 according to the standards of the international organization ACEA. There is another important criterion - the viscosity of the lubricant. It is also very important to pay attention to it. It must be selected taking into account the conditions in which the vehicle will be operated, and this is true not only for the Priora in this case. If frosts in your region exceed 35 degrees Celsius, but there is no great heat, then it is better to use 0W-30 grade lubricant. For the temperature range -25 - +25, 10W-30 oil is suitable. In hot regions, 15W-40 products may be optimal.

And finally, the main tips and misconceptions that Priora owners may encounter when changing engine oil:

    1. It is better to fill in new oil when it has darkened sufficiently. This is not entirely true, since even with infrequent use, it must be changed every season. Untimely replacement leads to poor circulation of lubricant in the system and damage to spare parts of the motor. But, at the same time, it can darken due to the fact that products from incomplete combustion of fuel dissolve in it.
    2. All-season lubricant is of worse quality than that intended for a particular season. In fact, you can successfully use all-season lubricant, since it is designed specifically for difficult operating conditions.
    3. Does it make sense to pay more for “synthetics” compared to “mineral water”? There definitely is, because synthetic products retain their lubricating properties longer and are less susceptible to oxidation. For these reasons, the interval for using such oil can be increased compared to mineral oil.
    4. Some owners find that it is useful to add additional additives to the lubricant. However, in high-quality products the composition has already been selected and balanced so that only the necessary elements and substances are present. Therefore, there is no need for any additives or additives.

Now you can see for yourself how important it is to promptly maintain the engine and change the oil in Priora cars. Although all of the above is quite true for other brands of vehicles. Recommend us to your friends, and you are guaranteed to be up to date with the latest automotive news. See you soon!

And what can be done in such a situation, and today we will tell you about the process of replacing the lubricating fluid in the engine along with the oil filter.

The automaker recommends changing the engine oil in Priora every 10-15 thousand kilometers, but experienced auto mechanics advise doing this more often - approximately every 8 thousand kilometers. The increased frequency is explained by poor operating conditions for cars in our country, as a result of which the oil becomes more quickly contaminated and loses its original properties. You can also find out about the reasons for oil consumption by the Priora engine from.

Tools for work

To change the oil in a Priora 8 or 16 valves you will need the following set of items:

  • a set of keys (in particular, a key for 17);
  • 5-liter container for draining used oil;
  • rags;
  • new filter;
  • suitable oil in the amount of 3.7-3.9 liters;
  • wrench for unscrewing the oil filter (optional).

Oil selection parameters

We had a separate detailed article about choosing the right one, but with motor lubricant everything is somewhat different. The main characteristic of a liquid is viscosity - an SAE parameter.

If the packaging indicates 10W-40, then 10W indicates how the lubricant retains its viscosity parameters and characteristics at a temperature of -30 degrees. The lower the parameter next to the letter W, the lower the temperature threshold at which the oil can be used. After the dash, the high-temperature oil viscosity threshold is indicated: the higher the number, the greater the possible maximum temperature above zero. You can find out which lubricant is best suited from a consultant in the store or by studying the Priora operating manual. Be sure to take into account the climatic conditions of the region in which you operate the car.

  • 5W-30, operating temperatures from minus 25-30°C to plus 20-25°C;
  • 5W-40, operating temperatures from minus 25-30°C to plus 35-40°C;
  • 10W-40, operating temperatures from minus 20-25°C to plus 35-40°C;
  • 15W-40, operating temperatures from minus 10-15°C to plus 35-40°C.

You can choose lubricants from brands such as Shell, Castrol, Mannol, Mobil or less expensive domestically produced oils such as Lukoil or Rosneft.

So, how much oil is in the Priora engine? In total, it holds about 4 liters of lubricant, and when replaced, it will hold a little less - about 3.7 liters. You will also need a new oil filter. For example, it will fit from the VAZ 2108, which is perfect for the Priora.

What functions does motor oil perform?

Motor oil plays an important role in the performance of a car. Lubricating fluid solves the following problems:

  1. Cleaning functions. The breakdown products of the fuel mixture settle on the engine parts, and the oil cleans their surfaces, maintaining normal engine operation.
  2. Corrosion protection. Moisture constantly penetrates into the power unit, and the oil, due to its properties, prevents corrosion inside the engine.
  3. Reduced wear. When operating a Priora or any other car, engine parts are subject to shock, friction and high temperatures. Motor oil significantly reduces the load on parts and optimizes operating temperature conditions.

Important subtleties

As we said, when changing the oil, always change the filter - this is a very important point and never neglect it. To drain the oil, get a container with low walls into which you pour the old liquid, and also have rags for wiping dirty surfaces.

It is recommended to change the oil after driving or warming up the engine so that it drains better from the engine. Place the car on the handbrake and place the stops, and then lift the car on the jack. You can also use a pit or lift.

Let's start replacing

Open the hood and unscrew the filler plug, and to drain the oil you need to unscrew the drain plug at the bottom of the engine crankcase. If there is protection under the bottom, but there are no technological holes, it will have to be dismantled by unscrewing all the bolts.

To unscrew the drain plug, you need to use a 17 wrench, preferably a head, so that the edges do not break off. Tear the bolt, place a container and unscrew it completely by hand, but do not get burned, as the oil is hot.

Allow the liquid to drain completely - this will take up to 15 minutes. While this is happening, you can replace the filter located at the rear of the engine - to the right of the exhaust manifold.

Replacing the filter

First, you need to unscrew the filter using a special wrench. If there is no key, and the filter cannot be moved by hand, take a screwdriver and carefully pierce it all the way across, using the tool as a lever, and unscrew the filter counterclockwise. Be prepared for some oil to leak out.

Fill the new filter with oil about halfway, which will prevent the engine from starving of oil in the first seconds when the engine starts, and also lubricate the threads and rubber seal with oil. When screwing, make sure that the filter is screwed onto the thread and without unnecessary effort.

Remove the container with the used oil and screw the drain plug into place. Changing the oil in a Lada Priora is a simple process, but it requires certain skills and accuracy on your part.

Filling with oil

Unscrew the filler plug, if you have not already done so, and use a funnel to fill in new lubricant. At the same time, check the level with a dipstick. Fill in about 3.5 liters, remove the dipstick, wipe it with a rag and insert it back. Then take it out again and look at the oil level: it should be in the middle between the two marks. Do not exceed the maximum level to avoid damaging the seals, air flow sensor or catalyst.
